The Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Region 10 (DENR 10), with the support of various local government units and private sectors, spearheaded the simultaneous celebration of International Day of Forest 2024 and World Water Day 2024 on March 22 in Northern Mindanao to highlight the importance of sustainable management of our remaining forests and freshwater resources.

DENR 10 Regional Executive Director (RED) Henry A. Adornado, through the Conservation and Development Division and the Licenses, Patents, and Deeds Division, conducted a Clean-Hike-Plant activity in Sitio Mapawa, Barangay Cugman, Cagayan de Oro City, and a Clean-up activity in Zone 6, Barangay Igpit, Opol.

The simultaneous celebration aimed at raising awareness of the importance of all types of forests and ecosystem restoration, including reforestation efforts that significantly contribute to climate change mitigation, as well as focusing on the importance of water to people living without access to safe water and the critical role of freshwater in the sustainability and prosperity of the world.

Additionally, on the same day, DENR personnel also participated in the removal of Water Hyacinth along the riverbanks of Isla de Oro in Cagayan de Oro City. The activity was organized by the Cagayan de Oro City Local Environment and Natural Resources Office (CLENRO).

Various national government agencies, local government units, their respective barangay local government units, and selected DENR regional office and line bureau personnel attended the activity in separate locations.
The International Day of Forest and World Water Day were both proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly, designated as March 21 for the International Day of Forest and March 22 for World Water Day.
The theme for the International Day of Forest 2024 is โ€œForest and Innovation: New Solutions for a Better Worldโ€ and โ€œWater for Peaceโ€ for World Water Day.
