CIMATU APPOINTS ADORABLE AS REGIONAL DIRECTOR OF DENR X

Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Roy A. Cimatu officiated the turn-over of responsibilities from outgoing OIC, Regional Director Edwin B. Andot to Director IV Arleigh J. Adorable as head of DENR 10 on November 27 in Cagayan de Oro City. 

This is in consonance with Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Special Order No. 2017-927 signed by Secretary Cimatu on November 21, 2017.  

Secretary Cimatu in his speech directed Regional Director Adorable to work harder for Region X.  He likewise thanked Director Andot for taking care of Region X during his leadership and a  new assignment will be given to him particularly DENR’s participation to Task Force Bangon Marawi.

The turn-over ceremony which was held at the regional office was witnessed by officials of DENR Central Office headed by lawyer Ernesto D. Adobo, Jr., Undersecretary for Administration, Finance, Human Resource, Information Systems, Legal, Legislative Affairs and Anti-Corruption; Ret. Gen. Mario C. Chan, Head Executive Assistant; lawyer Michelle Angelica D. Go, Secretary for Field Operations – Mindanao and Jesus Enrico Moises Salazar, OIC, Assistant Secretary for Human Resource Development and Administration.  

Other officials present during the turn-over ceremony were Director Rolando Castro of the Human Resource Development Service, Director Theresa Mundita S. Lim for Biodiversity Management Bureau, Assistant Director Jacqueline A. Caancan of the Environmental Management Bureau and lawyer Danilo U. Uykieng, Acting Assistant Director of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau.  Regional officials and personnel witnessed the turn-over ceremony. 

Director Adorable was formerly the Regional Director of DENR, Region VIII based in Tacloban City. 

He is a Career Executive Service Officer III and a forester by profession.  He was once assigned in Region X as Regional Technical Director for Protected Areas, Wildlife and Coastal Zone Management Services from  May 12, 2003 to December 1, 2005.  He was then transferred to Region IX as Regional Technical Director for Forest Management Services.  He was later promoted to Regional Director of the same region. 

Director Adorable finished his Bachelor of Science in Forestry at Mindanao State University, Marawi Campus and Master in Public Administration at Medina College, Ozamis City. 

He brings to Region X  36 years of dedicated public service. (RPAO No. 12-417-2017)

DENR 10 CELEBRATES WORLD WILDLIFE DAY

To spearhead the campaign in educating the youth on the importance of wildlife, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Region 10 (DENR 10) through its Protected Area Management and Biodiversity Conservation Section (PAMBCS) conducted a symposium on March 2, 2018 in Cagayan de Oro City.

The symposium was attended by selected students of Macabalan National High School. The activity is in observance of the World Wildlife Day which is celebrated globally every March 3, the day when the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) was adopted in 1973. The theme for this year’s celebration is “Big cats: predators under threat.”

This year’s celebration focused on big cats – Lions, Tigers, Leopards and Jaguars as well as their smaller cousins such as Cheetahs, Snow Leopards and Pumas, who are facing many different threats, most of which are caused by human activities. According to SeeTheWild Organization, roughly 80 percent of the 40 wild cat species are shrinking and sixteen of them are considered vulnerable, endangered, or critically endangered.

In his lecture, Ranoray Love A. Noro, Chief of PAMBCS reiterates that wildlife is important for their roles in preserving the balance of nature in the ecosystem where they belong. He also presented the threats to wildlife which includes illegal trade and habitat destruction.

The students also learned about Republic Act 9147 or the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act of 2001, an act providing for the conservation and protection of wildlife resources and their habitats. They also had a chance to visit the Regional Rescue Center inside the DENR 10 compound where they encountered real wild animals like the Philippine Hawk Eagle, the Python and the Cobra.

Noro gave emphasis on teaching the youth the importance of conserving and preserving biodiversity, including wildlife, because the youth will be next in line in the stewardship of our mother Earth. Ana Mae Sumalinog (RPAO MR No. 03-57-2018)
