Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Roy A. Cimatu officiated the turn-over of responsibilities from outgoing OIC, Regional Director Edwin B. Andot to Director IV Arleigh J. Adorable as head of DENR 10 on November 27 in Cagayan de Oro City. 

This is in consonance with Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Special Order No. 2017-927 signed by Secretary Cimatu on November 21, 2017.  

Secretary Cimatu in his speech directed Regional Director Adorable to work harder for Region X.  He likewise thanked Director Andot for taking care of Region X during his leadership and a  new assignment will be given to him particularly DENR’s participation to Task Force Bangon Marawi.

The turn-over ceremony which was held at the regional office was witnessed by officials of DENR Central Office headed by lawyer Ernesto D. Adobo, Jr., Undersecretary for Administration, Finance, Human Resource, Information Systems, Legal, Legislative Affairs and Anti-Corruption; Ret. Gen. Mario C. Chan, Head Executive Assistant; lawyer Michelle Angelica D. Go, Secretary for Field Operations – Mindanao and Jesus Enrico Moises Salazar, OIC, Assistant Secretary for Human Resource Development and Administration.  

Other officials present during the turn-over ceremony were Director Rolando Castro of the Human Resource Development Service, Director Theresa Mundita S. Lim for Biodiversity Management Bureau, Assistant Director Jacqueline A. Caancan of the Environmental Management Bureau and lawyer Danilo U. Uykieng, Acting Assistant Director of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau.  Regional officials and personnel witnessed the turn-over ceremony. 

Director Adorable was formerly the Regional Director of DENR, Region VIII based in Tacloban City. 

He is a Career Executive Service Officer III and a forester by profession.  He was once assigned in Region X as Regional Technical Director for Protected Areas, Wildlife and Coastal Zone Management Services from  May 12, 2003 to December 1, 2005.  He was then transferred to Region IX as Regional Technical Director for Forest Management Services.  He was later promoted to Regional Director of the same region. 

Director Adorable finished his Bachelor of Science in Forestry at Mindanao State University, Marawi Campus and Master in Public Administration at Medina College, Ozamis City. 

He brings to Region X  36 years of dedicated public service. (RPAO No. 12-417-2017)


DENR-PENRO Bukidnon awards Outstanding Urban Barangays on Plastic Waste Management

Barangay 1, Malaybalay City emerged as champion with Barangay Mabag-o, Valencia City as 1st runner-up and Barangay Mibantang, Quezon as 2nd runner-up in the recently concluded Search for Outstanding Urban Barangay on Plastic Waste Management sponsored by the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) of Bukidnon.

The winners received a Plaque of Recognition and the champion received a cash prize of P10,000 and the 1st runner-up and 2nd runner-up received P3,000 each.

In his report to DENR 10 Regional Director Arleigh J. Adorable, Bukidnon OIC, PENR Officer Virgilino P. Alima said the contest was conducted to address environmental issues on Solid Waste Management.

He further said the winners exemplify the best barangay in recycling, segregation and composting which are in line with the compliance of Republic Act 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000. The contest was conducted as part of the Environment Month celebration in June 2018.

The criteria for judging include segregation at source – 25 points, segregated collection – 20 points, materials recovery facility – 33 points and barangay committee for Ecological Solid Waste Management – 22 points.

Meanwhile, the PENR Office of Bukidnon also honored three individuals who sacrificed their lives in protecting and conserving the environment. Posthumous award was given to the bereaved families considered as Bukidnon Environmental Heroes. The posthumous awardees were Alex Banilar and Wilfredo Batico, who died during the fire suppression at the Bukidnon Provincial Tree Park on April 6, 2018 and Villamor Sihagan, a Kitanglad Guard Volunteer who died during the conduct of patrolling and monitoring activity at Mt. Kitanglad Range Natural Park. Their respective families received the award during the culmination program of the Environment Month celebration in Malaybalay City recently.

The celebration of Environment Month is mandated through Presidential Proclamation 237 which focuses public attention to the protection and conservation of the country’s natural resources. This year’s theme is “Beat Plastic Pollution.” (Arhleen Arat) #TayoAngKalikasan
