DENR 10 SETS GUIDELINE ON ADOPTION OF EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY PRINCIPLE

To further ensure work environment is free from all forms of discrimination, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Region 10 (DENR 10) has set its guideline on Adoption of Equal Employment Opportunity Principle following its signing by Regional Director Arleigh J. Adorable recently.

Regional Director Adorable said the guideline was prepared to remind all officials and employees that regardless of ranks, everybody is entitled to be protected under existing laws, rules and regulations of the office.

The guideline covers all DENR-10 employees (regular, casual and contract of service or job order); applicants for employment; clients; and the visiting public from all forms of discrimination especially those based on ethnicity, religion, gender identity and orientation, physical disability including pregnancy and senior citizens, political affiliation or other non-merit based factors.

Management practices and decisions, including application and renewal of permits; recruitment and hiring practices; appraisal systems; promotion; career path; recognition and awards; scholarship; training and career development programs are covered under the guideline.

Any employee or applicant who believes he or she has been subject to discrimination or retaliation should immediately report the matter to the DENR Action Center c/o Office of the Regional Director, the Chief, Administrative Division or the President of the employees union or the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Employees Association - 10 (DENREA 10).

The guideline further guarantees that “officials, employees, applicants and the public are protected against retaliation. Retaliation means to do something in response to an action done to oneself or an associate, especially to attack or injure someone as a response to a hurtful action.”

Based on the guideline, sanctions are meted on employees who fail to follow the guideline. For first offense, the employee will be reprimanded if the explanation is unjustified. For second offense, the employee will be suspended from One day to Thirty days and for non-organic personnel the sanction will be non-renewal of Contract of Service and third office is dismissal from government service. #TayoAngKalikasan
