In response to the letter requests from various Local Government Units (LGUs) of Misamis Occidental, DENR 10 - Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) of Oroquieta City donated logs and lumbers for the construction of COVID-19 quarantine facilities and quarters in their respective jurisdictions.
These quarantine facilities and quarters shall be used to accommodate the Persons Under Monitoring and Persons Under Investigation in Oroquieta City and municipalities of Aloran and Jimenez. In particular, the LGU of Oroquieta City received 859 pieces of lumbers (mahogany, falcata, marang and gmelina) with a total volume of 3,849.99 bd. ft last April 20, 2020.
Meanwhile, the LGU of Aloran received logs and lumbers (mahogany and narra) with a volume of 4,240 bd. ft. on April 23, 2020. Likewise, a total volume of 3,760.88 bd. ft. of logs and lumbers (mahogany, gmelina and mangium) was received by the LGU of Jimenez last April 28, 2020. The said logs and lumbers given to the two municipalities were derived from the trees affected by the road widening project of the DPWH.

In support to the government’s effort to fight the COVID-19 pandemic, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Region X - Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) and Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) have donated relief goods and other essential items to frontliners and other stakeholders.
The Environmental Management Bureau X continues to enforce environmental laws particularly on Healthcare Waste Management. The EMB X also deployed the Provincial Environmental Management Units to randomly validate reports of compliance of industries to the Enhanced Wastewater Management to combat COVID-19. A Rapid Response Team was also deployed to handle environment-related concerns in select quarantine checkpoints.
EMB X through the leadership of Regional Director Reynaldo S. Digamo launched project DASIG, a vernacular word which means hopeful, locally used to encourage the community amidst the health crisis brought by COVID-19.
The EMB X distributed on April 7 a total of 69 liters alcohol-based hand rubs to frontliners. Personnel of EMB X produced 24 liters utilizing refined glycerin from Pilipinas Kao Inc. and 45 liters of ethyl alcohol requested from Tanduay Distillers Inc.
Eleven sacks (50 kg) of rice were donated to 110 members of the Macajalar Wharf Porter’s Association, Multi-purpose Cooperative in Macabalan, Cagayan de Oro City.
One hundred five food packs containing rice, noodles, canned goods and one whole dressed chicken were donated to the local government of Barangay Puntod, Cagayan de Oro City for distribution to identified Persons with Disability. Barangay Captain Rexie A. Tinampay received the food packs from EMB X.
EMB X donated 1,872 food packs consisting of canned good and noodles. A total of 1,155 kilos of rice with boxes of canned goods, noodles and 1,410 pieces of eggs were distributed to 231 garbage collectors of Cagayan de Oro City through the City Local Environment and Natural Resources Offices.
The Mines and Geosciences Bureau, Region 10 under the leadership of Regional Director Efren B. Carido distributed 20 liters of disinfectant, coffee, biscuits and washable face masks to frontliners in the checkpoint in Taboc, Opol, Misamis Oriental.
The J. R. Borja General Hospital in Carmen, Cagayan de Oro City was a recipient of the donation of MGB X consisting of 200 pieces of surgical masks and five liters of alcohol.
MGB X donated coffee and biscuit to frontliners at the checkpoint in Villanueva and Jasaan, Misamis Oriental.
As part of the implementation of the realigned Annual Social Development and Management Program (ASDMP), MGB X with Republic Cement Iligan, Inc. provided food packs to 100 indigents of Bonbonon, 87 in Kiwalan, Iligan City and 50 indigents of Pagawan, Manticao, Misamis Oriental. The MGB X and Republic Cement Iligan, Inc. also provided Personal Protective Equipment and medicines to frontliners and Barangay Health Emergency Response Teams (BHERTs) in Iligan City checkpoints and Barangay Local Government Units.
Under the ASDMP, MGB X with Oro NQA Enterprises Corporation provided rice to 500 indigents of Sitio Santa Ana, Natumulan, Poblacion and Mohon in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental. The MGB X with Epics Motors and General Merchandise provided food packs to 100 indigents in Barangay Villaflor, Oroquieta City.
Also under the ASDMP, MGB X with Holcim Resources and Development Corporation (HRDC) provided relief goods to residents of Barangays Calangahan, Lower Talacogon and Kaluknayan, Lugait, Misamis Oriental. Mining engineering students of Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology who were stranded in Animas Bros. Const. Corporation, Iligan City received relief goods and basic toiletress from HRDC and MGB X.
The MGB X turned-over medicines, medical supplies and tools related to COVID-19 crisis control and mitigation for the community which targeted to cater 100 persons in Barangay Bunawan, Iligan City. Food pack, mineral water, face masks and disinfectants for 290 persons were given to the frontliners and BHERT members manning the checkpoints in Iligan City.
As of April 20, the MGB X with Animas Bros. Const. Corporation provided relief goods to health workers of Barangay Dioyo, Sapang Dalaga, Misamis Occidental.
Through the ASDMP, selected households in Barangays Tambagan and Bulwa, Medina, Misamis Oriental received relief goods from MGB X and Integrated Sand and Gravel permit of Ferdinand H. Dularte. The MGB X with WHK Manufacturing and Trading Corporation provided relief goods to selected households in Sitio Manlauyan, Gango, Bukidnon. Sacks of rice and disinfectant were also provided to the community and checkpoints through the Barangay Council of Barangay Gango, Libona, Bukidnon.
Seventy frontliners manning the checkpoint in Barangay Biga, Lugait, Misamis Oriental received sacks of rice, canned goods, face masks and hand sanitizers while the Barangay Council also received 10 sacks rice from MGB X. Employees of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in Northern Mindanao recently donated relief goods and other essential items as their support to frontliners of the fight against novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), beneficiaries of programs/projects and other stakeholders.
The regional office through the leadership of Regional Executive Director Arleigh J. Adorable distributed the relief goods to the personnel manning the checkpoints in Mambuaya, Cagayan de Oro City and Opol, Misamis Oriental. Regional Executive Director Adorable was represented by Assistant Regional Director for Technical Services Aldrich S. Resma in the turn-over of thirty boxes of pizza, coffee, disposable cups and bottled water to the frontliners in Opol, Misamis Oriental on April 17. Assistant Regional Director for Management Services Felix S. Mirasol, Jr. was represented by Administrative Division Chief Grace Dolores R. Chan during the distribution of relief goods in Mambuaya, Cagayan de Oro City checkpoint on the same day. The regional office is set to donate face shields, personal protective equipment and fabric face masks to hospitals in Cagayan de Oro City.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources Employees Association (DENREA) X and its provincial chapters are supporting the relief operation of the office.
The employees of the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) of Bukidnon with its four Community Environment and Natural Resources Offices (CENROs) – Valencia, Don Carlos, Manolo Fortich and Talakag conducted a fund raising through a “Voluntary One Day Salary for a Cause.” The PENRO and CENROs employees were able to raise P343,000 to procure goods for the members of the People’s Organizations under the Enhanced National Greening Program, Community-Based Forest Management Program and Integrated Natural Resources and Environmental Management Project. The food bag containing rice, canned goods, pancit canton, sugar and coffee were turned-over to the four CENROs for distribution to stakeholders in their respective areas of jurisdiction.
Face masks and disinfectant were distributed by CENRO-Don Carlos to frontliners of Barangay Kitingting, Damulog, Bukidnon composed of Barangay officials, Barangay Health Workers, Barangay Nutrition Scholar and Barangay Service Point Officers on April 15.
The CENRO of Valencia, Bukidnon donated to the Inter-Agency Task Force of Bukidnon 330 pieces of lumber with a total volume of 1,870.67 board feet for the construction of two units of COVID-19 checkpoints in Barangay Bonacao, San Fernando and Barangay Pamotolan, Kalilangan, Bukidnon while CENRO of Don Carlos, Bukidnon donated 700 board feet of assorted lumber with an estimated value of P35,000 for the COVID-19 checkpoint on April 13 -14.
The PENRO-Camiguin has provided two units of drone as technical assistance to the Provincial Government of Camiguin in the monitoring of the Preemptive Community Quarantine and assisted the Provincial Government in the packing of food packs to be distributed in the province. Personnel of PENRO-Camiguin were also assigned to assist in manning the checkpoints in the province.
The employees of PENRO Lanao del Norte with CENROs Iligan City and Kolambugan donated food packs and bottled drinking water to frontliners manning the checkpoints in Iligan City and municipalities of Lanao del Norte.
Food packs, bottled water and fruits to frontliners in checkpoints of Barangays Pines, Burgos and Paypayan in Oroquieta City and Lopez Jaena Checkpoint were donated by PENRO-Misamis Occidental. Distribution of bottled water was also undertaken to personnel manning the Sinacaban, Misamis Occidental checkpoint.
In coordination with the Provincial Government of Misamis Oriental, the employees of PENRO-Misamis Oriental donated P35,000 as cash assistance to the Northern Mindanao Medical Center on April 16, 2020. The assistance was raised through the one-day salary deduction of PENRO-Misamis Oriental employees both regular and contractual for the purchase of personal protective equipment and other essential items needed by the hospital.
Thirty-five habal-habal drivers and forest fire fighter volunteers at Mapawa Nature Park, Malasag, Cugman, Cagayan de Oro City were recipients of food packs from the employees of PENRO-Misamis Oriental.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Roy A. Cimatu visited DENR Region X and went to Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) - Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon last February 1, 2020.
The Secretary was accompanied by Chief of Staff and Undersecretary for Field Operations, (USEC) Rodolfo C. Garcia and other military comrades.
The party was welcomed by the OIC, Provincial ENR Officer Vergilino P. Alima who presented the profile of Bukidnon. OIC, CENR Officer Virgilio N. Batocail also presented the executive overview of CENRO Manolo Fortich to the Secretary.
Secretary Cimatu expressed his overwhelming appreciation to DENR personnel in Bukidnon for being in full support of his visit.
Secretary Cimatu called to accelerate the issuance of Free Patents of Alienable and Disposable lands. With regard to the Bukidnon Forest Incorporated (BFI), he instructed OIC, PENRO Alima, also the concurrent BFI General Manager, to pay the outstanding unpaid salaries of the BFI employees and start planting bamboo species both in BFI and National Greening Program (NGP) areas.
Secretary Cimatu also cited few distinctive factors causing plantation’s low survival rate and strictly instructed not to start NGP if the source of water is not assured.
“I am not after the number of hectares planted, I am after the number of trees that will survive”, Secretary Cimatu said.
He commended the Province of Bukidnon for being one among the provinces who have the highest survival rate in ENGP and likewise the top contributor of the country’s forest cover. He encouraged the people of Bukidnon to upkeep the record.
Secretary Cimatu also acknowledged all the job order employees. He challenged them to learn thoroughly the laws implemented by the Department and promised security of career to those with civil service eligibility.

Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Roy A. Cimatu challenged officials of Region X to improve the forest cover of their respective area of jurisdiction during the Expanded Executive Committee Meeting on January 30, 2020 in Cagayan de Oro City.
“As much as possible let us protect the forest and improve the forest cover”, Secretary Cimatu told regional officials. He disclosed the shift of growing bamboos under the Enhanced National Greening Program (ENGP). He also directed the Provincial and Community Environment and Natural Resources Officers to visit project sites and closely monitor the implementation of ENGP in their respective areas.
“Your performance on the National Greening will be a gauge for your promotion”, he added.
On the Solid Waste Management Program, Secretary also challenged regional officials to coordinate with local government officials and provide technical assistance on their compliance to the provisions of Republic Act 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 particularly on establishment and operation ofsanitary landfill.
At present, there are 13 operational sanitary landfills in Northern Mindanao and with 7 in Bukidnon, Camiguin with 1 (cluster for five municipalities), 3 in Lanao del Norte and 2 in Misamis Oriental. The DENR extends technical assistance to the cities and municipalities of Misamis Occidental for them to establish a sanitary landfill.
The meeting was also graced by Chief of Staff and Undersecretary for Operations – Visayas and Mindanao, Rodolfo Garcia, Regional Executive Director (RED) Arleigh J. Adorable, Environmental Management Bureau Regional Director (RD) Reynaldo S. Digamo, Mines and Geosciences Bureau RD Efren B. Carido, Assistant RD for Management Services Felix S. Mirasol, Jr., Assistant RD for Technical Services Aldrich S. Resma, PENROs, CENROs, division chiefs and other officials of the regional office.
Meanwhile, Secretary Cimatu and USEC Garcia with regional officials visited the sanitary landfill in Barangay Pagalungan and the proposed eco park in Barangay Carmen of local government of Cagayan de Oro City. Secretary Cimatu was apprised of the initiatives of the city government on the implementation of the provisions of RA 9003 by no less than Mayor Oscar S. Moreno. He was impressed with the implementation of Solid Waste Management by the city government of Cagayan de Oro.
While in Region X, Secretary Cimatu and USEC Garcia also had a meeting with the Provincial and Community Environment and Natural Resources Offices of Bukidnon at CENRO-Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon.
