To showcase the different Environment and Natural Resources (ENR) Projects and community initiatives in the protection and conservation of the environment and in line with the celebration of the Philippine Environment Month, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Region X spearheaded an online Photo and ENR Video Documentary Contests in June 2020.

With the Environment Month theme “Protect Nature, Sustain Our Future”, the Photo Contest aimed to show, tell, and inspire people to take care of the environment and be responsible for the consequences of the actions they have for the future generations. It was participated in by photo enthusiasts in Region X.

Albert Labalan from Cabalantin, Manticao, Misamis Oriental emerged as first place in the Photo Contest, Kirkamon Cabello from barangay Pagatpat, Cagayan de Oro City was declared as second place followed by Alandino Lingat, Jr. from barangay Carmen, Cagayan de Oro City as third place. Lingat, Jr. also bagged the People’s Choice Award.

DENR X also spearheaded ENR Video Documentary Contest participated in by Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENROs), Mines and Geosciences Bureau X (MGB X) and Environmental Management Bureau X (EMB X).

Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) Misamis Oriental bagged the first place. The video entry showcased the ENR projects on the conservation of protected areas, the sustainable implementation of the Enhanced National Greening Program (ENGP) and other environment-related activities and initiatives of the province.

PENRO Bukidnon bagged the second place of the ENR Video Documentary Contest. They showcased the successful implementation of ENGP at Migcawayan, Damulog, Bukidnon. The People’s Organization Migcawayan Land Owners Tribal Association, Inc. benefited from the ENGP which provided them additional income through livelihood projects and reforested their area.

PENRO Lanao del Norte emerged as third place with video entry showcasing the protection and conservation initiatives of the province for the Mount Inayawan Range Natural Park at Nunungan, Lanao del Norte.

Mines and Geosciences Bureau X bagged the People’s Choice Award with video entry on Mangrove Reforestation and Rehabilitation Project at Bayug Island, Barangay Hinaplanon, Iligan City.

The board of judges is composed of Philippine Information Agency X Media Associate Shaun Alejandrae Uy as Chairman, DENR X Head Executive Assistant and OIC, Chief, Human Resource Development Section Georgina Padilla, and Chief, Information and Communications Technology Unit of the Planning and Management Division Ma. Lapertina Madridano.

In compliance to the requirement of the Civil Service Commission following the appointment of new employees, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region X, through its Human Resource Development Section under the Administrative Division, conducts an Orientation for its Newly Appointed Employees on June 10-11, 2020 in Cagayan de Oro City.

The activity was formally opened by DENR X Assistant Regional Director for Management Services Felix S. Mirasol, Jr. who emphasized that the newly appointed employees must be well-equipped of the knowledge, skills and even attitude in the performance of their respective duties.

The two-day activity briefed the participants with the profile of the DENR and engaged them to be personally committed to the agency’s purpose, values and goals. It likewise deepened their understanding on the relevance of the DENR through its frontline programs and services.

Moreover, the orientation paved the way in order for the participants to be equipped with the necessary information as newly appointed public servants and acquainted them on established certain standards and protocols which are essential for the organizational success of the agency.

Salient features of various laws involving public service were likewise discussed to the new employees such as that of RA 6713 (Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees,) RA 9485 (Anti-Red Tape Act of 2007) and RA 11032 (Ease of Doing Business and Efficient Government Service Delivery Act of 2018.)

The two-day orientation successfully ended through a message from the Regional Executive Director of DENR X, Arleigh J. Adorable, who explained that the sense of belonging and ownership to something that is being accomplished is far greater when an employee has the passion and love what he/she is doing. He is hopeful that the newly appointed employees will contribute to the betterment of the office.

In line with the annual celebration of World Environment Day every 5th of June, DENR X conducted a regionwide simultaneous office clean-up on June 5, 2020.

The activity is meant to maintain the cleanliness of the office premises as well as to reduce the risk of illnesses especially in this time of global disease pandemic brought by COVID-19. On top of these reasons, World Environment Day is celebrated to encourage global awareness on the current state of the environment and to promote its protection against destructive human activities.

This year’s celebratory theme of World Environment Day ‘Time for Nature’ demonstrates the corresponding responsibility of humans toward nature. Alongside the benefits derived from it, humans have the moral and social obligation to protect and upkeep the same. It is worth stressing that it is high time for us to take extra care for nature in order to preserve the present and future generation. This present health crisis brought by COVID-19 as global disease pandemic paved the way for us to realize that part of taking care of ourselves is the innate responsibility to take good care for our nature.

The clean-up served as the preliminary activity for the launching of The Search for Environment Friendly Place to be participated in by DENR X Divisions in the Regional Office.

The contest aims to engage the employees in the maintenance and cleanliness of the office especially in this time of health crisis. It likewise promotes a greener and beautiful workplace and surroundings, encourage advocacy on zero waste environment through proper waste segregation or recycling of materials into new products, and stimulate the habit to spend less and save more money by initiating pro-environment and zero waste management activities. #TayoAngKalikasan RPAO MR No. 06-140-2020

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Region X (DENR X) leads the celebration of Environment Month this June with the theme: “Protect Nature, Sustain our Future.”

DENR X Regional Executive Director (RED) Arleigh J. Adorable disclosed that the office will launch activities to celebrate of Environment Month regionwide consistent with the declaration of June as Environment Month by virtue of Presidential Proclamation no. 237, series of 1998.

He said the DENR X hopes to promote the protection, enhancement and development of our environment even as we are facing the COVID-19 pandemic. All sectors of the society are enjoined to support and actively participate in the celebration of Philippine Environment Month.

To drumbeat the celebration, RED Adorable said the regional office will hold a Photo Contest, Video Documentation Contest, Search for Environment-friendly place (by divisions), Solidarity Prayer and Scrap Digester Contest. He said the line bureaus of DENR will also spearhead activities to mark the occasion.

The Environmental Management Bureau, Region X under the leadership of Regional Director Reynaldo S. Digamo will conduct a Regional Search for Best Urban/Backyard Gardening Contest, Turn-over of Solid Waste Management equipment to the Local Government of Cagayan de Oro, Gardening activity and podcast with the Regional Director.

For their part, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau, Region X with Regional Director Efren B. Carido at the helm, will conduct the GAWAD ORO (Outstanding Responsible Operation) Award. The search will honor the best quarry and mineral processing operations in the region. The personnel of MGB X will participate in a Modified Team Building – Poster/mini mural-making contest based on the World Environment Day theme “Biodiversity” and Modified Quiz Bowl.

The Provincial and Community Environment and Natural Resources Offices will also observe Environment Month through various activities. Information campaign will be undertaken through various media platforms to encourage partnership in the sustainable development efforts of the government.

With the launching of the activities this June, the office will strictly observe the guidelines and policies set by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases. #TayoAngKalikasan (RPAO #06-137-2020)

In consonance to the nationwide campaign of the government “We Heal as One,” the DENR 10 upheld the same last May 15, 2020 when it extended a relief goods assistance to the garbage collectors from Barangay Puntod and Macabalan in this city as well as to the maintenance employees of the regional office.

The recipients were invited at the Office Compound where a short ceremony was conducted while at the same time observing the necessary protocols to prevent the spread of COVID-19 virus. In his talk, DENR 10 Regional Executive Director, Arleigh J. Adorable, acknowledged the garbage collectors as frontliners in this global pandemic. He underlined the essential role of the recipients in maintaining the cleanliness of the surrounding through their regular collection of garbage.

Notably, the activity was through the initiative of Environment and Natural Resources Multi-Purpose Cooperative, Inc. and with the support from DENR Employees Association.

A number of similar activities have already been undertaken by the Regional as well as Field Offices of DENR 10, including the donation of logs and lumbers to some Local Government Units in the region for the construction of COVID-19 quarantine facilities and quarters.
