To support sustainable development and continue reforestation of denuded areas, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Region X National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) and People’s Organizations (POs) partner for the Tree Replacement Project for Misamis Oriental and Lanao del Norte. 
  
The Tree Replacement Project is a response to replace 2,290 Naturally Growing Trees (NTP) and Planted Trees (PT) affected while implementing the Mindanao-Visayas Interconnection Project – Lanao del Norte Side Transmission Line Project of NGCP. NGCP is required by the DENR to replace the affected trees with 100 pieces of seedlings per NGT and 50 seedlings per PT in accordance with DENR Memorandum Order No. 2012-02 dated November 5, 2012 “Uniform Replacement Ratio for Cut or Relocated Trees” in support to the National Greening Program and climate change initiatives of the Government.
A Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was signed on May 4, 2022 by DENR X Regional Executive Director Henry A. Adornado, NGCP Assistant Vice President and Head of Engineering Construction Department Gerardo A. Torres represented by OIC-Manager Engineering Projects Permits Division Alfredo P. Crisostomo, and President of the four POs, namely: Gilbert Ortega of the Ditago Farmers Association, Brgy. Tupocon, Sultan Naga Dimaporo, Lanao del Norte; Pastor A. Tinonas of Canitoan-Pagatpat-Lumbia Farmers Association, Inc., Barangay Pagatpat, Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental; Celedonio M. Cabigquez of Salimbal Tignapoloan Cagayan San Isidro Community Farmers Association, Salimbal, Tignapoloan, Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental and Oliver T. Abragan of Sitio Imbayao Farmers Association, Salimbal, Tignapoloan, Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental. It was witnessed by Provincial Environment and Natural Resources (PENR) Officer Samer C. Ambola of PENRO Lanao del Norte, PENRO Ferdinand E. Dagulo of PENRO Misamis Oriental, Community Environment and Natural Resources (CENR) Officer Pacasum P. Mascara of CENRO Kolambugan, CENRO Initao Development Management Officer IV Jerome G. Pioquinto and NGCP Financial Controller Raymund A. Fontillas. 
Director Adornado expressed his gratitude towards NGCP and the POs in supporting the project. He added that close monitoring will be conducted by the DENR to ensure the proper implementation and sustainability of the project.
On the other hand, OIC-Manager Engineering Projects Permits Division Alfredo P. Crisostomo who represented NGCP Assistant Vice President and Head of Engineering Construction Department Gerardo A. Torres during the activity hoped that the project will be successful not only in attaining environmental benefits but also the economical aspect as it will provide incentives to the concerned communities. 
PO President Oliver T. Abragan of Sitio Imbayao Farmers Association, Salimbal, Tignapoloan, Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental said that the Tree Replacement Project will help in the reforestation efforts of the DENR and stakeholders while also providing livelihood and incentive for the farmers in the hinterland barangays through agroforestry. 
Regional National Greening Program Coordinator Vincent D. Ferolin informed that the species to be planted by the four POs will be Mangkono, Cashew, and Cacao with a project cost of ₱5,058,784.00. He added that it covers a total land area of 57 hectares. A total of ₱513,838.00 will also be given to DENR X for the Project Monitoring and Supervision and Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses. 
The four areas of the Tree Replacement Project are located at Tupocon, Sultan Naga Dimaporo, Lanao del Norte; Barangays Pagatpat, Sito Imbayao Tignapoloan, Sitio Salimbal Tignapoloan in Cagayan de Oro City. #TayoAngKalikasan RSCIG No. 04-140-2022
