In the observance of the annual celebration of the International Day of Forest with the theme: “Forest Restoration: A Path to Recovery and Well Being,” the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Region X (DENR X) through the Conservation and Development Division (CDD) conducted a clean-up activity, bagging of soil and potting of various seedlings at the DENR X Regional Nursery in Cagayan de Oro City.

CDD OIC-Chief, Lida Bagonoc said the activity was aimed to increase the awareness among the participants and the community on the importance of forest restoration in terms of human health and recovery.

On the other hand, National Greening Program (NGP), Regional Coordinator, Forester Gemma Celino led the bagging of soil and potting of seedlings of indigenous species like Tanguile (Shorea polysperma), Nato (Palaquium luzoniense) and White Lauan (Shorea contorta).

The International Day of the Forest activity at the regional office was attended by staffs from the different sections of the CDD. A total of 540 various nato, tanguile and white lauan seedlings were potted during the activity. Potted seedlings will be distributed for free to requesting public upon availability of seedlings.

In another development, in support to the annual celebration of the World Water Day, the DENR X and DENR-EMB X in collaboration with the Barangay Local Government Unit (BLGU) and some residents of Barangay Bulua, this City conducted a clean-up activity at the Sapang Creek in the said barangay on March 19, 2021.

DENR personnel and barangay volunteers collected a total of 15 sacks of various waste materials such as plastic wrappers, scrap metals, twigs/woods, glass bottles, rubbers and other residual waste during the activity.

To ensure health and safety protocols, participants wore face masks and face shields as well as practicing social distancing during the conduct of the said clean-up activity.
