To mobilize the youth in the protection, conservation and management of the environment and natural resources (ENR), the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Region X has partnered with Central Mindanao University (CMU), Musuan, Maramag, Bukidnon in the implementation of the ENR Ambassador Project in Northern Mindanao.

A Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was signed on March 16, 2021 by DENR X Regional Executive Director Arleigh J. Adorable and CMU President Jesus Antonio G. Derije, DVM, Ph.D. to formally implement the project and train the chosen six ENR Ambassadors. It was witnessed by Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer Vergilino P. Alima of Bukidnon, Community Environment and Natural Resources Officer Felicisimo C. Escuadro Jr. of Valencia City, CMU Vice President for Research, Development and Extension Alan P. Dargantes, Ph.D., CMU Dean College of Forestry and Environmental Science Alex Olpenda, Ph.D., and CMU Dean College of Agriculture Ma. Estella Detalla, Ph.D.

Director Adorable hoped that the ENR Ambassadors will be the department’s effective partners and force multipliers in changing behavior of the people towards environmental stewardship. He assured the University and the ENR ambassadors that DENR, Region X will fully support the implementation of the project.

On the other hand, CMU President Derije expressed his utmost gratitude in choosing CMU as the pilot ENR Ambassador Project in Northern Mindanao and he hoped that this endeavor will be sustained not only in the University but also among stakeholders.

The ENR Ambassadors shall be partners of the DENR in the conduct of IEC, advocacy, social mobilization and partnership-building activities such as, but not limited to, conduct of online meetings, online environmental lectures, and posting of environmental articles in social media sites.

To effectively mobilize the roles of ENR Ambassadors, tablet and pocket Wi-Fi devices were turned-over during the MOA signing. These devices will be utilized in their ENR activities, online reporting and DENR coordination and also help them adapting to “new normal” situation with their studies at the same time.

The ENR Ambassadors were from the College of Forestry and Environmental Science and College of Agriculture. They are Regein Calunsag and Jose Allen Salapayne taking BS Forestry; Marie Joy Leyses and Bryan Rey Villaruel BS Environmental Science; and Stephanie Dayaganon and Lembert Neil Ayta BS Development Communication.
