To further support the “Go Green, Go Grow and Earn Green” activities of the Boy Scout of the Philippines (BSP)-Bukidnon Council, the DENR-Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (DENR-PENRO) of Bukidnon crafted a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and Covenant of Membership signing on Tayo Ang Kalikasan (TAK) with the BSP-Bukidnon council on August 21, 2020 at Barangay Pal-ing Patpat, Malaybalay City.

The MOU serves as a tool for any environment-related activity for both parties in the near future, wherein the DENR as the lead the agency in the protection, conservation and development of the country’s forest and environment and natural resources was tasked to assist and provide technical assistance to the BSP Council in their support to DENR’s implementation of Republic Act No. 9275 (Philippine Clean Water Act) and Republic Act No. 9003 (Comprehensive Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000).

However, the BSP-Bukidnon council on its part, was also tasked to support the DENR TAK Programs for Environment and Natural Resources for Restoration, Rehabilitation and Development (PRRD) through signing of the Covenant of Membership and to be part of “Tayo Ang Kalikasan” as local chapter of the movement; and to maintain the cleanliness of the rivers/esteros/creeks/canals and/or other water bodies and Tree Planting site pursuant to Republic Act No. 9275 and Republic Act No. 9003.

OIC, PENR Officer Vergilino P. Alima during the opening program expressed his gratitude to the BSP-council represented by Council Scout Executive Glenda A. Berse for the all-out support to DENR’s programs and activities. He also lauded the BSP-council’s “Go Green, Go Grow and Earn Green” initiatives which enable Scouts to become well-rounded individuals and effective citizens in the future. He also thanked Council Scout Executive Berse for supporting the MOU.

BSP-Bukidnon Council Scout Executive Glenda A. Berse on her part articulated that the Council is very happy and excited to be part in the protection, conservation and development of the environment. She also expressed the Scouts willingness to help in whatever ways they could to perform their duties and responsibilities as TAK partner stakeholder.

Meanwhile, after the brief program, a chapter formation on TAK movement was spearheaded by PENRO-Bukidnon TAK focal person Arhleen A. Arat. She discussed the TAK organizational structure and background and emphasized that the program was objectively envisioned to be a collaborative effort between the government and stakeholders.

The signing of MOU and TAK Covenant of Membership and recitation of the TAK Pledge of Commitment concluded the program proper.

Moreover, a tree growing activity was also conducted during the activity, DENR-PENRO Bukidnon Youth Desk Officer Roxanne Faye O. Rolida spearheaded and briefed Scouts on the proper way of handling and planting of seedlings prior to the actual tree planting to ensure the survival of seedlings.
