Some 21 officers from the Manila and Central Visayas regional offices of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) are proud recipients of the Wildlife Law Enforcement Awards from the Biodiversity Management Bureau (BMB) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in recognition for their invaluable support in the campaign against illegal wildlife trade in the country. Leading the presentation of the awards, held Tuesday (March 5, 2019) at the Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife Center in Quezon City, are DENR Asst. Secretary Ricardo Calderon and BMB Director Crisanta Marlene Rodriguez (4th& 5th from left, back row). Also in photo is Mr. Randy Vinluan (to Calderon’s right), sustainable landscapes specialist of USAID Philippines). For the past five years, the DENR has conferred the Wildlife Law Enforcement Awards to at least 365 men and women who defended the voiceless wildlife species against illegal collectors and traders.World Wildlife Day is observed annually on March 2. ###

Go present the memorandum of agreement for the rehabilitation of Wetland No. 8 in Brgy. Manoc-manoc in Boracay island under the DENR’s Adopt-a-wetland Program. Cimatu said the adoption of the wetland by the JG Summit was a “positive step towards biodiversity conservation.”Under the agreement, JGSPC commits to rehabilitate the wetland at no cost to the government, and to prioritize the adjacent local communities for any suitable employment opportunities. The MOA signing was held Thursday at the DENR office in Quezon City. ###

Both parties agreed to develop and implement a comprehensive program intended to reduce pollution in the river system which starts from the La Mesa Dam in Quezon City and drains into the Manila Bay at Centennial Park in Navotas City. Cimatu thanked Mr. Ang for heeding the call to help in the rehabilitation of the bay during the signing ceremony held Monday (March 4, 2019) at the DENR Central Office in Quezon City. ###

Environment Secretary Roy A. Cimatu (center) assures the public of continuing rehabilitation of the Boracay Island in Malay, Aklandespite the on-going massive cleanup of Manila Bay. Cimatu, who chairs both the Boracayand Manila Bay Interagency Task Forces, made the assurance on Thursday (February 28, 2019) following task force meeting held in Taguig City. Also in attendance are Tourism Secretary Berna Romulo-Puyat(left) and Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año (right), both vice-chairs of BIATF.Cimatu also stressed the continued action against those found violating ordinances and regulations within the discipline zones, especially establishments that operate beyond the easement areas along the beach and roads. ###

The equipment has a maximum reach of 14 meters, moves in and out of the water by itself, and can work in different environment such as swamps and narrow channels. On a daily basis, the two AmpEx can excavate 720 cubic meters or around 60 truckloads of silt and waste combined.###
