Another batch of researchers from the Ecosystems Research and Development Service (ERDS) - 10 tested the applicability of the different modalities of the Trees in Multi-Use Landscape in Southeast Asia (TULSEA) in Claveria, Misamis Oriental. These modalities are on Participatory Landscape Appraisal, Land Tenure Appraisal, and Rapid Market Assessment. The practicum was held in Claveria, Misamis Oriental as part of the training activity to enforce learning.

The World Agroforestry Centre conducted the second national training-workshop on TULSEA at Marco Hotel, Alwana Business Park, Cugman, Cagayan de Oro City on June 9-13, 2008. The capacity building activity taught the participants of DENR-10; MOSCAT, Claveria, Misamis Oriental; and LGUs in Bukidnon and Misamis Oriental administered the testing of the tools in the different landscapes.

Regional Executive Director Maximo O. Dichoso in his message cited that forest landscape rapidly changes due to the changing land-use practices. Thus, altering the vegetation and wildlife component of the ecosystem. This problem according to RED Dichoso, can be addressed by the technical people, however with the intrusion of the social component in the area, the implementation of the conservation efforts would be difficult. He concluded that through the World Agroforestry Centre, MOSCAT, LGUs, and DENR, with TULSEA as a tool, could work together for an integrated natural resource management in the CBFM’s agro-forestry component.

Of the 22 participants, four were researchers from ERDS. They were For. Manolito M. Pasco, Georgina C. Padilla, Norma A. Palma, and Rosalia B. Acub. The other participants were from Kalahan Foundation, Nueva Vizcaya; ICRAF and MOSCAT-Claveria, Misamis, Oriental; LGU-Claveria, Misamis Oriental; LGU-Lantapan, Bukidnon; and LGU-Bukidnon Environment and Natural Resources Office.

The resource persons were Dr. Laxman Joshi, Suseno Budirdasono, and Endri Martini from Indonesia; and Dr. Minh Ha Hoang from Vietnam while the facilitators were Dr. Jun Mercado, ICRAF-Claveria, Misamis Oriental; RTD Danilo Cacanindin, DENR-10; Cecille Egnar, BENRO; Dr. Alma Cosadio, and Imelda Hebron, MOSCAT.
