DENR LAUNCHES SIAD PROJECT IN LANAO DEL NORTE

To help uplift the life and sustain the needs of the people in the hinterlands of Lanao del Norte, particularly in the municipality of Nunungan, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Region 10 launched the Sustainable Integrated Area Development (SIAD) Project on March 22 in the said municipality.

On behalf of Secretary Regina L. Lopez, DENR Undersecretary for Field Operations Philip G. Camara attended the momentous event with Office of the Presidential on Peace Process (OPAPP) Secretary Jesus Dureza.

According to Usec Camara, the SIAD project is very timely as other agencies like the OPAPP and the Department of Public Works and Highways in Region 10 have their respective project in the area. This collaboration effort with the OPAPP to attain peace and development and the DPWH on the road rehabilitation project will possibly boost the morale of the people living in the municipality of Nunungan to participate in the programs offered to them by the government, he said.

He added that DENR’s access to natural resources is one of the key ingredients to peace and development. The community can participate and have access to the natural resources so that they can improve their socioeconomic condition.

OPAPP Secretary Jesus Dureza emphasized on the importance of peace and order in attaining development in Nunungan. He stressed out that President Rodrigo R. Duterte personally chose Nunungan to be the pilot area to benefit the Sustainable Integrated Area Development (SIAD) Project of DENR.

Nunungan Mayor Marcos Mamay thanked and lauded DENR Undersecretary for Field Operations Philip G. Camara and Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace Process Secretary Jesus Dureza for gracing the launching of the SIAD project in their municipality.

He hoped that through the SIAD Project of the DENR and assistance from other National Government Agencies, socioeconomic growth will spur in the municipality and improve the lives of the people.

DENR 10 OIC, Regional Director Edwin B. Andot administered the oath-taking of selected local residents from the municipality of Nunungan as Deputize Community Based Forest Protection Volunteers and Wildlife Enforcement Officers.A ceremonial bamboo planting headed by DENR Undersecretary for Field Operations Philip G. Camara and OPAPP Secretary Jesus Dureza culminates the activity was also conducted.

The Sustainable Integrated Area Development of the DENR plans to provide climate change resilient livelihood program and projects to Nunungan inhabitants toward socioeconomic development and environmental protection of the headwaters of Maranding river watersheds.
