DENR 10 INTERCEPTS WING VAN TRUCK LOADED WITH ILLEGALLY CUT FOREST PRODUCTS

Department of Environment and Natural Resources Region 10 (DENR 10), through its Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) of Initao, intercepted a Wing Van Truck loaded with illegally cut forest products coming from Talakag, Bukidnon on November 29, 2019.

Personnel from CENRO Initao and Philippine National Police (PNP) Lumbia Station intercepted the truck loaded with assorted sizes of illegally cut logs at around 5:00 AM following an information they have received from a concerned citizen dawn of the same date.

Based on the Police Blotter, the intercepted truck is registered under the name of Mr. Dwight Cezar O. Sambulay from Block 9 Lot 23 Scions Kauswagan, Cagayan de Oro City. Upon arrival of the responding PNP personnel, the unidentified driver of the said truck had already evaded and left his driven truck which is now in the custody of DENR 10 CENRO Initao along with the illegally cut forest products.

Mr. Gerry C. Palarca, Forest Ranger of DENR 10 CENRO Initao, said that the truck was intercepted after the driver failed to present any valid documents to prove that the transport of the logs was legal.

On the same day, DENR Secretary Roy A. Cimatu visited the office of DENR 10 CENRO Initao and was able to see numerous trucks used in the hauling of illegally cut forest products, including the recently intercepted truck. In a statement, Secretary Cimatu said that the intention of the agency is to maintain the forest and the only way to fulfill this is to prohibit the cutting of native and indigenous trees. In doing this, culprits must be apprehended.

The strategy enunciated by Secretary Cimatu is to concentrate on illegal logging activities by being relentless in apprehending the illegal loggers. “If prevention fails, we apprehend,” he added. #TayoAngKalikasan RSCIS MR No. 12-361-2019

DENR 10 REGIONAL EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR LAYS DOWN AGENCY’S PLANS AND TARGETS FOR CY 2020

Department of Environment and Natural Resources Region 10 (DENR 10) Regional Executive Director (RED) Arleigh J. Adorable lays down the agency’s plans and targets for CY 2020 during its 1st Regional Expanded Executive Committee Meeting on January 8, 2020 in Cagayan de Oro City.

In compliance to the marching orders of DENR Secretary Roy A. Cimatu, RED Adorable underscored the necessity to create a Regional Environmental Law Enforcement Task Force which will be tasked to sternly enforce in the region the several environmental laws of the country particularly on forest protection.

Also, RED Adorable tasked the Director of Environmental Management Bureau Region 10 to identify as soon as possible an area where the Local Government Units (LGUs) can establish a clustered sanitary landfill and to require them to submit a sewage plan.

Following the success of “Challenge for Change Program: CDO Limpyo Dagat Contest” as a regional initiative of DENR 10 which the same was inspired on the efforts of the department to restore and rehabilitate the Manila Bay, RED Adorable plans to sustain this initiative by replicating it this time to the rivers of Cagayan de Oro City. The contest gained support from the LGUs in the city as well as from other stakeholders to protect and conserve the Macajalar Bay. As a result of this, RED Adorable likewise aspires to clone the same initiative to all other bays in the region.

RED Adorable underscored the implementation and supervision of NGP in the region by continuing its objective to increase its present forest cover of 22%. DENR 10 is targeting to correct all its polygons on the first quarter of 2020 through Social Cartography method using drones to identify the metes and bounds of areas developed.

For CY 2020, DENR 10 target for patent issuance significantly increased to more or less 10,000 titles which will be worked out in coordination with the municipalities in the region with existing Memorandum of Partnership Agreements with the Office.

DENR 10 seeks to be the best performing regional office based on what it has accomplished in the previous year and live its being an Environmental Awards for Governance and Leadership Excellence (EAGLE) Awardee for the year 2018 – the highest and most prestigious award that can be conferred to the most outstanding performers among the regional offices.
