DENR HOLDS MANAGEMENT CONFERENCE IN CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY

More than a hundred key officials of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) led by Secretary Roy A. Cimatu gathered in Cagayan de Oro for the DENR National Management Conference on July 23-25, 2018.

The conference aimed to assess the performance of regional offices and bureaus with regards to the ten priority programs of the department. A review on the physical and financial performance of the regions vis-à-vis the targets for the first semester of 2018 was conducted.

In his message, Secretary Cimatu shared the honors that the department is receiving for its efforts of rehabilitating Boracay. He said that the success of the Boracay undertaking is a result of the concerted efforts of all the regions who had been alternately sending their field personnel to support the mission.

He encouraged the regions to double their efforts in attaining their targets and work harder in performing their mandate.

Secretary Cimatu also disclosed that the department is looking into the possibility of organizational changes to further address the environmental problems of the country. A review in the organizational structure is currently being undertaken and plans for additional offices and field officials are underway.

Also discussed during the Management Conference are congressional issues and concerns by region, Fiscal Year 2019 National Expenditure Program, and the launching of the Search for the R.I.V.E.Rs (Recognizing Individuals/Institutions towards Vibrant and Enhanced Rivers) for Life Award.

DENR 10-PENRO LANAO DEL NORTE CONDUCTS YES-O TECHNICAL VISIT AND IEC SCHOOL CARAVAN

To strengthen the promotion of environmental awareness and advocacy support to the youth, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Region 10 through the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) of Lanao del Norte conducted a Youth for Environment in Schools Organization (YES-O) Technical Visit and Information, Education and Communication (IEC) School Caravan on November 21, 2018 in Lanao del Norte National Comprehensive High School, Baroy and Geronima Cabrera National High School, Kolambugan, Lanao del Norte, respectively.

In behalf of DENR 10 Regional Executive Director Arleigh J. Adorable, Chief, Regional Strategic Communication and Initiatives Section Lina D. Calvez shared the importance and the role of youth in protecting and conserving the environment. She also thanked the students and teachers who supported the activity.

A total of 200 students, teachers, and DENR personnel attended the activity. Students are members of the YES-O, Supreme Student Council, Barkada Kontra sa Droga and other school organizations/clubs.

The activity was in celebration of National Environmental Awareness Month, National Clean Air Month and National Climate Change Consciousness Week (November 19-25) with a theme, “Greening the Future: 10 Years of Enhancing Education for a Healthier Environment and Safer Climate.”

The topics discussed during the activity include Solid Waste Management, Climate Change, Tayo ang Kalikasan and other environment-related programs and projects. Mr. Arvin Antonio of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council Office of Lanao del Norte discussed about Disaster Preparedness.

An open forum and Trivia portion were conducted to discuss the environmental issues and concerns of the students. The Office also distributed IEC materials to the schools.  #TayoAngKalikasan RSCIS No. 12-322-2018
