DENR HOLDS MANAGEMENT CONFERENCE IN CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY

More than a hundred key officials of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) led by Secretary Roy A. Cimatu gathered in Cagayan de Oro for the DENR National Management Conference on July 23-25, 2018.

The conference aimed to assess the performance of regional offices and bureaus with regards to the ten priority programs of the department. A review on the physical and financial performance of the regions vis-à-vis the targets for the first semester of 2018 was conducted.

In his message, Secretary Cimatu shared the honors that the department is receiving for its efforts of rehabilitating Boracay. He said that the success of the Boracay undertaking is a result of the concerted efforts of all the regions who had been alternately sending their field personnel to support the mission.

He encouraged the regions to double their efforts in attaining their targets and work harder in performing their mandate.

Secretary Cimatu also disclosed that the department is looking into the possibility of organizational changes to further address the environmental problems of the country. A review in the organizational structure is currently being undertaken and plans for additional offices and field officials are underway.

Also discussed during the Management Conference are congressional issues and concerns by region, Fiscal Year 2019 National Expenditure Program, and the launching of the Search for the R.I.V.E.Rs (Recognizing Individuals/Institutions towards Vibrant and Enhanced Rivers) for Life Award.

The participants of the Management Conference were undersecretaries, assistant secretaries, bureau directors, service directors and regional directors of the DENR, Environmental Management Bureau and Mines and Geosciences Bureau. #TayoAngKalikasan (RPAO MR No. 08-211-2018)

IDPs CLAIM LAND STAKES IN MAA

Nineteen barangay chairmen along with 6,543 internally displaced persons from the Most Affected Area (MAA) of Marawi City manifested their will to secure their war-torn properties through the Social Cartography activity spearheaded by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Region 10 (DENR-10).

The alliance of BLGUs, Armed Forces of the Philippines, DENR and the acceptance of GIS-based land survey accelerated its completion, ahead of its March 31, 2019 deadline.

Also known as Kambisita, Social Cartography, is designed to gather data on land ownership inside the MAA. Claims of ownership on structures are also recorded.

As provided in Memorandum Circular No. 2017-003 by the Land Management Bureau, Kambisita adopts the drone-generated maps in identification of properties. The strategy not only expedites the process but also reduces human exposure to unstable structures inside the MAA.

Ground-truthing reveals a minute difference of only 0.10 millimeters between drone-generated map and actual survey.

Kambisita is one of the activities of Task Force Bangon Marawi lodged under DENR. (PSMadridano/PMD-DENR10). #TayoAngKalikasan
