To produce different Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials for Lake Lanao River Basin, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Region 10- Integrated Natural Resources and Environmental Management Project (INREMP) conducts Training/Workshop on IEC Materials Design and Production on May 17-19, 2018 in Iligan City.

INREMP aims to promote sustainable utilization of watershed resources for the local people inhabiting the watershed areas which local communities in Lake Lanao depend mainly as their source of livelihood.

DENR 10 Assistant Regional Director for Technical Services Paquito D. Melicor, Jr. encouraged the participants to work harder in raising awareness to protect and conserve the natural resources for the present and future generations.

Provincial Environment and Natural Resources (PENR) Officer Mamacaya M. Lucman acknowledged the importance of producing IEC materials to raise awareness about environmental protection and conservation particularly in the local communities within the Lake Lanao River Basin.

The participants of the activity included the community development officers, technical extension officers, INREMP personnel and Mindanao State University (MSU)- Iligan Institute of Technology Graphic Design students. They produced prototype IEC materials such as brochures, posters, flyers, billboards and desk calendar that will provide information about the INREMP in Lake Lanao River Basin particularly to the local communities and stakeholders.
Center for Environmental Studies and Management IEC and Public Participation Specialists Dr. Ma. Theresa M. Rivera and Mr. Antonio S. Frio, MSU Main Campus-Marawi Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Alma Berowa, Ms. Baicon Cayongcat from World Food Programme Philippines and DENR 10 Community Development Officer I Shannon Lyn Aboc were the resource persons during the three-day activity.

Topics include Lake Lanao River Basin Communication Plan and Strategies, designing and layouting IEC materials, preparation and use of IEC materials in the context of Muslim and Maranao Culture, and drafting IEC materials for advocacy.

The activity also included presentation and critiquing of the prototype IEC materials to enhance its content and layouting before its production and dissemination. #TayoAngKalikasan (RPAO # 05-150-2018)



To further ensure work environment is free from all forms of discrimination, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Region 10 (DENR 10) has set its guideline on Adoption of Equal Employment Opportunity Principle following its signing by Regional Director Arleigh J. Adorable recently.

Regional Director Adorable said the guideline was prepared to remind all officials and employees that regardless of ranks, everybody is entitled to be protected under existing laws, rules and regulations of the office.

The guideline covers all DENR-10 employees (regular, casual and contract of service or job order); applicants for employment; clients; and the visiting public from all forms of discrimination especially those based on ethnicity, religion, gender identity and orientation, physical disability including pregnancy and senior citizens, political affiliation or other non-merit based factors.

Management practices and decisions, including application and renewal of permits; recruitment and hiring practices; appraisal systems; promotion; career path; recognition and awards; scholarship; training and career development programs are covered under the guideline.

Any employee or applicant who believes he or she has been subject to discrimination or retaliation should immediately report the matter to the DENR Action Center c/o Office of the Regional Director, the Chief, Administrative Division or the President of the employees union or the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Employees Association - 10 (DENREA 10).

The guideline further guarantees that “officials, employees, applicants and the public are protected against retaliation. Retaliation means to do something in response to an action done to oneself or an associate, especially to attack or injure someone as a response to a hurtful action.”

Based on the guideline, sanctions are meted on employees who fail to follow the guideline. For first offense, the employee will be reprimanded if the explanation is unjustified. For second offense, the employee will be suspended from One day to Thirty days and for non-organic personnel the sanction will be non-renewal of Contract of Service and third office is dismissal from government service. #TayoAngKalikasan
