DENR 10-INREMP CRAFTS IEC MATERIALS FOR LAKE LANAO RIVER BASIN

To produce different Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials for Lake Lanao River Basin, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Region 10- Integrated Natural Resources and Environmental Management Project (INREMP) conducts Training/Workshop on IEC Materials Design and Production on May 17-19, 2018 in Iligan City.

INREMP aims to promote sustainable utilization of watershed resources for the local people inhabiting the watershed areas which local communities in Lake Lanao depend mainly as their source of livelihood.

DENR 10 Assistant Regional Director for Technical Services Paquito D. Melicor, Jr. encouraged the participants to work harder in raising awareness to protect and conserve the natural resources for the present and future generations.

Provincial Environment and Natural Resources (PENR) Officer Mamacaya M. Lucman acknowledged the importance of producing IEC materials to raise awareness about environmental protection and conservation particularly in the local communities within the Lake Lanao River Basin.

The participants of the activity included the community development officers, technical extension officers, INREMP personnel and Mindanao State University (MSU)- Iligan Institute of Technology Graphic Design students. They produced prototype IEC materials such as brochures, posters, flyers, billboards and desk calendar that will provide information about the INREMP in Lake Lanao River Basin particularly to the local communities and stakeholders.
Center for Environmental Studies and Management IEC and Public Participation Specialists Dr. Ma. Theresa M. Rivera and Mr. Antonio S. Frio, MSU Main Campus-Marawi Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Alma Berowa, Ms. Baicon Cayongcat from World Food Programme Philippines and DENR 10 Community Development Officer I Shannon Lyn Aboc were the resource persons during the three-day activity.

Topics include Lake Lanao River Basin Communication Plan and Strategies, designing and layouting IEC materials, preparation and use of IEC materials in the context of Muslim and Maranao Culture, and drafting IEC materials for advocacy.

The activity also included presentation and critiquing of the prototype IEC materials to enhance its content and layouting before its production and dissemination. #TayoAngKalikasan (RPAO # 05-150-2018)

DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENT AND NATURAL RESOURCES REGION 10 RECEIVES COMMENDATION FROM BIODIVERSITY MANAGEMENT BUREAU

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources Region 10 (DENR 10) received a commendation from Biodiversity Management Bureau (BMB) for its initiative to conduct a Capacity Development Training Workshop on Cave Management and Assessment on February 11-14, 2019 at Dancagan, Province of Bukidnon.

The training workshop was spearheaded by the personnel from Protected Area Management and Biodiversity Conservation Section (PAMBCS) of DENR 10 and attended by field personnel from Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) Bukidnon, Community Environment and Natural Resources Offices (CENROs) of Valencia City, Don Carlos, Manolo Fortich and Talakag.

The training workshop specifically oriented the participants on the following: (1) rationale and introduction to cave, (2) guidelines governing the naming of caves, (3) guidelines safeguarding the caves utilized for tourism, (4) outline of cave management plan, (5) cave surveying and mapping, (6) cave photo documentation, and (7) caving techniques and safety roping technique. Actual cave assessment and rappelling in Kisolop Cave at New Kidapawan, Kibawe, Bukidnon was conducted in order to gauge the learning of the participants.
