CAGAYAN DE ORO RIVER BASIN MANAGEMENT COUNCIL SHARES BEST PRACTICES

The Cagayan de Oro River Basin Management Council (CDORBMC) opened its doors by sharing its best practices to the Agusan River Basin Organization (ARBO) during a cross visit and benchmarking in the region on September 29, 2017.

Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Region 10 (DENR 10) Regional Director Edwin B. Andot welcomed the ARBO Governing Board in his message and encouraged everyone to take advantage of the opportunity to learn, ask questions and give feedback. He reiterated the significance of benchmarking and sharing of best practices as we are one in our mission in government service.

Forester Fidel P. Gamos, Jr., Head of the River Basin Project Management Office of DENR 10 presented the profile and history of the CDORBMC and revealed that Typhoon Ondoy in 2009 was one of the contributing factors in the creation of the Council in 2010 under the leadership of Archbishop Ledesma and then DENR 10 RED Maximo Dichoso.

Forester Marilou M. Clarete, Chief of the Conservation and Development Division of DENR 10, discussed the Payment for Ecosystem Services (PES) established by the CDORBMC and piloted in Mt. Kalatungan in the province of Bukidnon. It was followed by a PES Status Update given by the Xavier Science Foundation represented by Mr. Rowe Dawin Esmaya.

Part of the cross visit is a short meeting with the Chairman of the Cagayan De Oro River Basin Management Council Archbishop Antonio J. Ledesma, where The Most Reverend welcomed the Board and shared to them valuable lessons and experiences in supervising the Council.

The activity ended with a site visit in the waterways of Cagayan de Oro River including the famous Macahambus Cave, the landing site of White Water Rafting Adventures and the Uguiaban Bridge, the site of the DOST-installed Early Warning Device to monitor the flow of water and rain.

The Agusan River Basin Governing Board is composed of representatives from different national government agencies, local government units, security agencies and other stakeholders from Agusan del Norte and Agusan del Sur. Ana Mae Sumalinog RSCIS No. 10-337-2017

CIMATU AWARDS SPECIAL PATENT TO PHILIPPINE ARMY IN CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, DONATES CONFISCATED LUMBER TO TWO MILITARY CAMPS IN MINDANAO

Cagayan de Oro City. Environment Secretary Roy A. Cimatu today awarded a Special Patent covering an area of 43,547 square meters of public land to the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine Army, 4th Infantry Division (4ID) at Camp Evangelista in Barangay Patag here.

The Special Patent was received from Secretary Cimatu by Army Chief Maj. Gen. Rolando Joselito Bautista which was turned-over to 4ID Commander, Maj. Gen. Ronald C. Villanueva. The DENR 10 headed by Regional Director Arleigh J. Adorable facilitated the awarding of the Special Patent which was signed by Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer of Misamis Oriental Aldrich S. Resma and the registration of the title signed by Cipriano Benedicto E. Ratunil of the Register of Deeds.

Cimatu was the guest of honor and speaker during the 48th Founding Anniversary of the 4ID where he once served as Commander prior to his stint as Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

A Special Patent is awarded by DENR on public land actually occupied and used for public schools, municipal halls, public plazas or parks and other government instiutions for public use.

The DENR also donated a total of 50,000 board feet of confiscated lumber for the repair and construction of facilities of the 4ID and 103rd Infantry Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, Kampo Ranao, Marawi City.

The deeds of donation of confiscated forest products were signed by Secretary Cimatu with Maj. Gen. Villanueva of 4ID and Colonel Generoso Ponio, commander of the 103rd Infantry Brigade, Kampo Ranao, respectively.

Cimatu said 40,000 board feet of lumber was donated to the 4th Infantry Division and 10,000 board feet was donated to the 103rd Infantry Brigade, Kampo Ranao for their lumber/wood material needs.

It can be recalled that officials of the two military camps requested the DENR for the donation of confiscated forest products.

The DENR, Region 13 (CARAGA) facilitated the donation of their lumber/wood materials composed mostly of Lauan species for the two military camps. (RPAO MR No. 02-20-2018)
