RD ANDOT URGES EMPLOYEES TO LIVE UP TO THE DENR MISSION

Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region 10 OIC, Regional Director Edwin B. Andot urged the personnel to live up to the mission of the Department. He challenged everyone to make it a personal commitment to care for Mother Earth.

He further sighted examples of simple things that could be done at home like rainwater harvesting and practicing solid waste management that will greatly impact in ecological advancement. He made this call during the Opening Program of the 2017 Environment Month celebration on June 02, 2017 at the DENR 10 covered court.

Quoting Evo Morales, he shared that “What human beings must know is that mankind cannot live without Mother Earth, but the planet can live without humans.” Thus, the theme of this year’s Environment Month celebration “Connecting People to Nature” encourages to reconnect and reconcile human activities and daily life decisions in the context of environmental protection.

The DENR Region 10 has lined up various activities for the month-long celebration which include a Sports Fest, several environmental symposia, and Pista sa Nayon. A tree planting activity will also be conducted for the Arbor Day celebration on June 26, 2017 at the Arboretum Area in Mapawa Nature Park, Malasag, Cugman, Cagayan de Oro City.

This year’s Environment Month celebration aims to increase the level of knowledge of the stakeholders on the various programs of the DENR, seek participation and encourage a closer working relationship within the DENR community.

The Regional Office will also host an ENR Documentary Contest that will be participated by the Local Government Units, Non-Government Organizations and Provincial/Community Environment and Natural Resources Offices. There will also be a Retirees’ Get Together event that hopes to gather loyal and dedicated employees that became a part of the Department’s many years of challenges and successes.

June was declared as the Philippine Environment Month, by virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 237, signed in 1988, by then President Corazon Aquino. The Department of Environment and Natural Resources is the primary agency, implementing various activities to raise awareness on the value of the environment, through its bureaus, agencies, partners and stakeholders. DENR 10 INFORMATION OFFICERS GEAR UP FOR BETTER ONLINE PRESENCE

To keep up with the demands of time and fast-paced information sharing, Information Officers from the Provincial/ Community Environment and Natural Resources Offices in Region 10 participated in a Learning Event on Social Media and Infographics on October 25-27, 2017 in Cagayan de Oro City.

The 3-day Learning Event also aimed to enable Information Officers to be updated on social media and technology trends and be more engaged in the online community which will be very useful in communicating DENR campaigns, projects and programs.

Resource speakers from the Environmental Management Bureau gave lectures on the priority programs of the DENR, the Ecological Solid Waste Management (RA 9003) and the Philippine Clean Air Act (RA 8749). Climate Change and Carbon Footprint Inventory lectures were also conducted.

Communications Development Officer Rosita Lubguban and Information Officer Marlowe Paragas from the Regional Office echoed their learning on Social Media for Development. They discussed on the significant use of social media in promoting campaigns and propaganda especially for government information dissemination.

Sigrid Joy T. General gave a lecture on Infographics. She discussed its importance and uses. A workshop was also conducted with Information Officers preparing their own Infographics.

The participants learned the advantages of using a picture-based IEC material as a better tool in capturing the attention of the youth and the online community. Infographics are also used in presenting processes in a simpler, condensed and creative manner.

Assistant Regional Director for Technical Services Lawyer Florenda Lamason-Yap encouraged the Information Officers to always do their best on their job. She said designations are proof of trust and confidence given to them as public employees.
