DENR 10 TO HOST 2017 PRESIDENTS’ MEETING OF EMPLOYEES UNION ON MAY 24 – 26

Regional presidents of the employees union of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), the Kalipunan ng mga Kawani sa Kagawaran ng Kalikasan (K4), will converge in Mambajao, Camiguin on May 24 – 26 for the 2017 Presidents’ Meeting.

The conduct of the Presidents’ Meeting of K4 is in consonance with the provisions of Executive Order No. 180, series of 1987 providing guidelines for the exercise of the right to organize of government employees, creating a public sector labor-management council, and for other purposes.  K4 is registered with the Civil Service Commission and Department of Labor and Employment as the employees’ union of DENR. 

Executive Order No. 180 allows all government employees to form, join or assist Employees’ organizations of their own choosing for the furtherance and protection of their interests.

Under the leadership of the K4 National President, Gerson Taoingan of Region IV-A (Mimaropa) and its K4 National Chairman, Emma Delima of  Region VI (Western Visayas), regional concerns/issues will be discussed during the meeting.  Resolutions will also be signed during the Presidents’ Meeting.

The president of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Employees Association (DENREA) of Region 10 Francis D. Palle disclosed that a ranking DENR official will install  into office the new set of officers of K4.

An Environmental Tour at Mt. Timpoong – Mt. Hibok – Hibok Natural Monument, an ASEAN Heritage Park, successful projects of DENR and areas of learning will be visited by the participants. 

The participants will come from the DENR Central Office and regional offices, Mines and Geosciences Bureau, Environmental Management Bureau, Biodiversity Management Bureau, Forest Management Bureau, Land Management Bureau, and other attached agencies of DENR. (RSCIS # 05-124-2017)

DENR 10 APPREHENDS WILDLIFE SPECIES IN MISAMIS OCCIDENTAL

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Region 10 –Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), Ozamiz City apprehended one Yellow-Crested Cockatoo and male and female Silver Pheasants at Ozamiz City Port Area on August 22, 2017.

Two suspicious individuals carried the wildlife species in the port area placed inside the two-cage boxes and were later abandoned after the Philippine Coast Guard-Ozamiz City halted them for inspection. The Philippine Coast Guard officers confiscated the items and turned-over to CENRO Ozamiz City for appropriate action. 

The Yellow-Crested Cockatoo (Cacatua sulphurea) (upper photo) is a large white parrot with a dark grey-black bill, a distinctive sulphur-yellow crest and a yellow wash on the underside of the wings. On the other hand, the Silver Pheasant (Lophura nycthemera) species are often found in forests, mainly in mountains. Male Silver Pheasant (below photo, left) is adorned with white, long, patterned tail and black dropping crest on its crown while the female Silver Pheasant (below photo, right) is olive brown with black-tipped crest. Both wildlife species are exotic and categorized as critically endangered and least concern species, respectively.

Pursuant to Republic Act 9147 or the “Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act”, the seized wildlife species under the category of endangered and critically-endangered species without corresponding authorization documents in the act of trade, transport and possession should be confiscated by the government.

The said wildlife species were turned-over by CENRO Ozamiz City to DENR 10- Wildlife Rescue Center for custody on August 23, 2017. RSCIS No. 09-283-2017
