To equip and capacitate the information officers on the different programs and projects, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Region 10 conducted Assessment and Information, Education and Communication (IEC) Planning Workshop on December 6-7, 2016 in Cagayan de Oro City.
“I want you to be very effective information officers of Northern Mindanao because you will not only represent your leaders but the DENR as a whole”, according to DENR 10 Director Ruth M. Tawantawan.
Director Tawantawan added that information officers should be effective in disseminating information to the clientele especially on the different programs, projects and activities conducted by DENR.
Senior Communications and Development Officer (SCDO) Lina D. Calvez of the Strategic Communication and Initiatives Section discussed the DENR Strategic Communication Map (2016-2020) to the participants. She added that the roadmap will guide DENR in achieving desired outcome among audiences and stakeholders through organizational and people support.
The information officers from the Provincial/Community Environment and Natural Resources Offices (PENROs/CENROs) presented their IEC accomplishments. They conducted series of activities to inform the public on the different programs and projects implemented by DENR.
A workshop was also conducted in the crafting of IEC Work and Financial Plan for 2017 to identify the different activities to be conducted next year. This will also identify the trainings, workshops, and seminars to be attended by the information officers to capacitate them in the IEC campaign and activities.
Topics discussed during the activity include Programs and Projects CY 2016 presented by Assistant Chief, Planning and Management Division Dario P. Barbarona and preparation of the minutes of the meeting by SCDO Lina D. Calvez.
EDWIN ANDOT, NEW OIC, REGIONAL DIRECTOR FOR DENR X
Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Regina Paz L. Lopez has designated Community Environment and Natural Resources Officer Edwin B. Andot as the OIC, Regional Director for Northern Mindanao.
The move is part on the continuing reorganization of the department and embodied in DENR Special Order No. 2017 - 235 dated March 13, 2017.
Agriculture/aquaculture development, community organizing and governance, corporate planning and management, sectoral mobilization and networking, manpower development and agri-business are his field of competencies.
A resident of Cagayan de Oro City, OIC, Regional Director Andot is an Agricultural Engineer by profession, a farmer and comes from the civil society organization. He had stint as a consultant of the Natural Resources Development Corporation, an attached agency of DENR.
The new Regional Director had worked as a consultant of various organizations like the Justice Project Phil. Foundation, Ecosystem Work for Essential Benefits, Center for Alternative Rural Technology and Land Bank of the Philippines. He was once a consultant of the provincial governments of Misamis Oriental and Misamis Occidental.
From 2000 to 2012, he was the chairman of the Regional Agriculture and Fishery Council (RAFC) Region 10 and elected as national president of RAFC Association of the Philippines from 2008 to 2010.
He is the founding president of the Chamber of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industries of Northern Mindanao, Inc. and Philippine Vegetable Industry Development Board.
He also served as barangay chairman of Salvacion, Kadingilan, Bukidnon from 1994 to 2001.
OIC, Regional Director Andot first joined the government as project manager of Southern Philippines Development Authority from 1981 to 1992.
He is a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering from Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan. (RSCIS # 03-51-2017)
